Qualifications Required:
Highly motivated with a strong academic background including:
- CTA Qualified (3 years post qualification)
- Achieved a 2.1 degree in any discipline or equivalent (AAT level 4)
Purpose of the role:
Working both autonomously and as part of an established team focussing on providing tax services to a variety of industry sectors. You will be client facing, show willingness to work as part of a team and be able to meet deadlines.
This is an extremely varied role and as such, requires an individual who is prepared to assist in all areas of the portfolio’s requirements. With a solid tax bias, this role will also include elements of accounts work and ad hoc consultancy/project work.
This opportunity will ideally appeal to an ambitious CTA tax professional (with a solid understanding of accounting) who is looking to really getting to grips with a diverse and interesting portfolio. Above all, we are looking for candidates who have the right attitude to learn about our clients, push themselves forwards, apply themselves to every aspect of the portfolio and build long lasting client relationships; providing a personal yet professional service to clients.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- A role with focus on private client taxation
- Being involved in Business development
- Ability to prepare proposal for new clients and quote fees
- Manage client portfolios profitably
- Writing knowledge based articles for the firm and presenting at adhoc seminars or to clients
- Managing Partner expectations
- Effectively control and subsequently grow own portfolio including resource planning, management of work in progress, billing and collection
- Providing pro-active tax advice to a wide range of clients
- Technical tax support to Partners, colleagues and clients
- Tax planning and one off technical projects
- Furthering client relationships and cross selling
- Quality control on tax compliance files and carry out hot and cold file reviews
- Being involved in appraisals
- Meeting and updating the relevant Manager(s) and Partner on a regular basis – highlighting areas of success or concern as appropriate.
- Overseeing the scheduling and workflows on each of the jobs – ensuring all deadlines and targets are met.
- Regularly updating the Partner to discuss workload, client issues or concerns and managing their input as appropriate.
- Assuming day to day responsibility for the portfolio management, building strong and successful client relationships; providing expert, timely and comprehensive advice both face to face, via phone and email. Reviewing of Returns prepared by senior/trainee colleagues and supporting trainees
- Working successfully with other Managers and Partners across the firm to ensure that all statutory deadlines and requirements are met. This includes liaising and overseeing /reviewing the provision of accounts work from the Accounting Services team.
- Supervising/overseeing/reviewing work conducted by Accounting Services and Tax Teams.
- Supervising the preparation and submissions of Self-Assessment tax returns and dealing with the compliance of tax processing
- Overseeing the management of P11D Returns, ATED and CGT Returns
- Highlighting any delivery issues and suggesting approach to rectify.
- Reviewing monthly billing and managing WIP, billing and recoverability.
- Dealing with HM Revenue & Customs’ enquiries
- Dealing with clients enquiries
- Handling and taking part in meetings with clients, HM Revenue & Customs and other third parties
Duties may also include:
- Dealing with project management of client assignments – liaison with solicitors, financial advisers, other accountants and professionals and input into official filing/claims/elections
- Ad hoc assistance with internal administrative matters of the firm
- Other ad hoc assistance reasonably required in conjunction with the above matters generally

- An understanding of Tax is desirable but not necessary as training and study support will be provided.
- CTA qualified (ACCA/ACA desirable but not essential).
- Experience in reviewing the work of others – providing feedback and support where necessary. Technical all-rounder with a strong desire to increase and expand knowledge and experience.
- Experience of working to budgets and managing projects accordingly.
- Able to balance your workload with the pressures of studying for a professional qualification
